Violet Sabrewing 3815
The female Violet Sabrewing (Campylopterus hemileucurus) has a subdued elegance, but lacks her mate's iridescent blue-violet color. She has greenish underparts that become bronze green on the crown and a curved bill. She lays her two white eggs in a large cup shaped nest on a low horizontal branch, usually over a stream. The food of this species is nectar, taken mainly from flowers such as heliconias and bananas.
